and Tanya Smith, from Oregon, bought this Sandy Bay home in June 2019.
“Currently, we are vacationing a few times a year in our new property,
with the intention of being full-time residents in the next few
years,” Tanya says.
“It came as a surprise as to how much we loved Roatan,” she
continues. “Our intention was to vacation, scuba dive and enjoy the
culture. We did not expect to look at properties before we returned home from
our first trip here together, but after experiencing the people and playing in
the waters, we didn’t want to leave.”
“We were introduced to Mike Carter through the Lawson Rock front desk,” Tanya explains. “We were staying at Casa Azul, next door, and popped in to see if the community had a local realtor onsite. After working with Mike on our real estate purchase, we decided to meet the team he works with through the property management branch and were impressed with the team that works for Roatan Vacation Rentals.”
“Roatan has a culture that has a simplicity, a generosity, a family
community and an energy that is contagious. We found, through our experience,
the locals love and take pride in their little piece of paradise and enjoy
sharing it with others,” Tanya says.
“When looking for a property, we wanted a location that kept us submerged
in that culture, rather than choosing a property in a gated community
surrounded by other expats. We have met the greatest people who we now have the
pleasure of having as neighbors.
“In addition to wanting to be a part of their community we also wanted to
be near the water,” she continues. “The water and the reef that
surround Roatan are some of the best we’ve seen around the world. Having a home
literally on top of the water is an added bonus. We love to snorkel and scuba
dive, and we can do that right off of our personal dock, in warm, clear water.
So for us, to have community, simplicity and water recreation at our
fingertips…..we couldn’t be happier with our decision to call Roatan
home.”
