Owning a Vacation Rental in Roatan
Have you ever considered buying a vacation home in Roatan? Here’s how two couples, Johanna & Henrik Steen from Seattle and Gloria Foster & Tom Vayda from New York, ended up living that dream in reality.
Dolphin Reef House (featured at the beginning of this newsletter) is located just down the beach about 1/2 mile from Anthony’s Key Resort in Sandy Bay. These two couples purchased the home together in August 2016, working with our sister company, Roatan Life.
“Roatan Life handled our purchase of the home,” Gloria says. “And we had heard Roatan Vacation Rentals have a great reputation of taking care of the homes in their care. At this time we plan to use the home for vacations 2-4 times per year.”

“We came to Roatan for the first time about 6 years ago because we are avid divers and wanted to see the reef,” Gloria explains. “We found it to be a lovely, peaceful Island, the people were friendly and kind, and the diving was world class.”
Roatan is regularly regarded as one of the premier diving destinations in the world. It was scuba divers who first put Roatan on the tourism map, and the dive industry is still a primary reason people visit the Bay Islands.
“We stayed at Anthony’s Key a few years later so that our daughter would become dive certified and play with the dolphins,” Gloria continues. “It was then that we met the Steens. We became friends and ate all our meals together. We made plans to meet again the following year at AKR.”
“They spoke of purchasing a house on Roatan, so it sort of evolved from there,” says Gloria. “It was not our intention to purchase, but when we found Dolphin Reef House – we fell in love. It is perfect for us and for other divers who want to spend time together and – most importantly – dive.
“You have access to the ocean right at your doorstep…not to mention the amazing sunsets on your porch. There are so many things to do on Roatan that we never get bored. Add to that the favorable money exchange, you can’t beat it.”
