Our island is officially open to visitors and we couldn’t be happier!

We got some news that the Honduran borders are opening.  The rules and protocols are now becoming clear as central government published them into law.  We are sure things will change so definitely take this as a grain of salt and be sure to review prior to booking or coming but here is what we know as of August 20th, 2020

The Government of Honduras has announced that as part of the gradual easing of some coronavirus (COVID-19)-related restrictions, commercial passenger flights will resume with international flights from all four international airports restarting from August 17th.  Roatan is receiving its first international flight on August 22nd (American Airlines from Miami)

All international travel is subject to increased screening measures.   All passengers entering or leaving the country will be required to follow strict bio-security measures and respect the new mandatory Honduran immigration requirements:

a) Register and pre-check your travel via the following website: https://prechequeo.inm.gob.hn/

b) All passengers must present a negative result of the polymerase chain reaction test PCR in real time or a rapid test (with a minimum specificity of 85%, sensitivity 98% for covid-19) administered within a period no longer than seventy-two hours prior to the arrival or departure*.

c) Everyone is strongly encouraged to follow the International Sanitary Regulations released by World Health Organization for international travel (clinical evaluation and mandatory self-quarantine) as determined by the local sanitary authority.

d) All travelers are required to wear face covering, maintain social distancing, and use sanitizing gel as instructed.

Please note that if a foreign passenger develops symptoms of any respiratory infection or shows symptoms compatible with a contagious disease such as covid-19 , they will undergo the process established by the security measures protocol for international airports in Honduras  http://www.interairports.hn/contactenos/

If you need more information, please contact the immigration office directly: (504) 2232-7800 or reach out to us.

NOTE:

*The official release states that the PCR or Rapid Test is required when “arriving to Honduras”.

You must make sure you meet the requirements of all countries you enter. This may include a Covid-19 negative test result.

So that is the official release.  You need to fill out the online form to come and bring a test as well as follow normal covid bio security protocols (masks etc).

We understand that in some places its pretty difficult to get testing done or done in that time frame (72 hours prior to arrival).  We have let the Ministry of tourism know about this and some other things but for now this is what we have to work with. We expect the timing to be extended however.

American Airlines will have Saturday only Service from Miami for the next few months.  United and Avianca show opening flights late September or early October we are told and as we grow into higher season were expecting/hoping a return to similar air lift to what we had in past years.

Since we’re now open to visitors, The island certainly could use tourists to come and visit if they feel comfortable doing so.  You can imagine what 5 months of zero guests has done to the local economy and its not going to be better over night.  Fall is a traditional very low season and the cruise lines are not expected back till much later.  That means if you are willing to travel you will find great deals and uncrowded beaches! Contact us to learn more about our specials, easy cancel booking policies and more.

If you can not come and want to help food banks are another good way to help if you can not come in person.  Check out https://www.solroatan.org/ if you would like to help that way.

We miss you and look forward to your return, till then we will be here looking after things and doing our best.

Thank you,
